OUR PURPOSE
STRIDE works within the community of Scituate, Massachusetts to affirm the value of representation, inclusion, diversity, and equity for the well-being and success of the community.
OUR VISION
STRIDE envisions a community:
that is free of bias, discrimination, and hate;
where differences are respected and affirmed; and
where all members of the community live in solidarity and are seen, accepted, and valued for their unique contributions.
OUR MISSION
STRIDE strives to:
increase awareness of issues related to diversity;
advocate for school and municipal policies promoting representation, equity, and inclusion; and
disrupt patterns of prejudice in our community.
OUR STRATEGY
STRIDE accomplishes the work by:
listening to, learning from, honoring, and amplifying the voices of a diverse group of people;
focusing on issues in a broad range of areas including race, LGBTQIA+, religion, physical/cognitive/emotional ability, and socioeconomic class;
encouraging critical thinking, while at the same time meeting people wherever they are on their journey toward cultural competency and sensitivity;
acknowledging and welcoming a broad range of philosophies of and strategies for effecting positive change;
collaborating with and creating synergies with other groups in Scituate and the surrounding area doing similar DEI work;
working with officials from the Town of Scituate, including its school and police departments, to examine the problems of prejudice and discrimination;
advocating for anti-bias education, training, policies, and practices;
responding to incidents of bigotry, intolerance, discrimination, and hate; and
developing an organizational structure and communication framework to take the work forward into the future.
